Polish heat wave drives unsafe market food sales and a surge in fan purchases
Temperatures above 30 °C in Warsaw have led vendors at outdoor bazaars to sell meat, cheese, milk, eggs and other perishables without refrigeration. Sanitary inspector Marek Waszczewski warned that such practices increase the risk of food‑borne infections such as salmonella and E. coli and urged consumers to avoid buying items not kept cool.
In the Masurian lake district, extreme summer heat has prompted tourists to buy folding fans in record numbers. Local souvenir sellers report that fans have sold out quickly, while prices for parking and boat rentals have risen, adding to visitors’ expenses. Both regions see rising health and safety concerns as the heat persists.
