Polish heat wave forces smartphones to shut down for thousands
During the current heat wave in Poland, extreme temperatures are causing smartphones to overheat and automatically shut down or refuse to make calls. The devices’ built‑in thermal protection limits processor performance, disables functions, or powers off completely to protect batteries and other components. Intensive tasks such as high‑resolution video recording, gaming, or live streaming generate additional heat, which combined with ambient heat pushes internal temperatures beyond safe thresholds.
Experts advise removing phones from direct sunlight, turning off intensive apps, using lighter cases, and allowing devices to cool in the shade. They also warn against drastic cooling methods like placing phones in a freezer, which can cause condensation and permanent damage.
The phenomenon is affecting tens of thousands of Polish users, highlighting the limits of current smartphone designs under severe weather conditions.
