Polish Homeowners Turn Vacation into DIY Renovation Boom

A recent UCE Research and Fachurra survey finds that 59.3% of working Poles plan or have already carried out DIY renovation projects during their vacation, turning holiday time into a major sales period for the domestic DIY market. Rising labor costs—up 9.3‑10% in Q2 2025 and a further 5.4‑6.6% in Q2 2026—and a 33% increase in material prices over 2021‑2022 are driving homeowners to undertake work themselves.

The study breaks down activity: 37.4% restrict themselves to minor repairs or refreshes, 9.1% combine small tasks with larger projects, and 12.8% engage in substantial remodels such as kitchen, bathroom, flooring or whole‑house renovations. Savings from DIY work can reach 5‑11 thousand PLN, depending on scope and local rates. Paweł Szumlański, co‑author of the report, notes that “vacation becomes the only realistic window for many to organize, purchase materials and supervise contractors, as daily work leaves little time for home upkeep.”
