Polish hospital fined 134,000 zł over alleged preferential surgery for senator Lenz's son

The National Health Fund (NFZ) in Poland determined that a district hospital in Aleksandrow Kujawski breached procedural rules and imposed a fine of 134,000 zł, giving the facility 14 days to appeal. The investigation stemmed from an incident on 15 March in which the 13‑year‑old son of Civic Coalition senator Tomasz Lenz was taken directly to a surgical ward, bypassing the emergency admission process and with incomplete documentation.

Hospital staff and an internal commission confirmed that the usual admission protocol was not followed and that records of the operation had been altered. The NFZ concluded the hospital failed to provide continuous medical supervision in several departments on the day of the procedure.

Senator Lenz disputed the link between the fine and his son’s case, stating that the NFZ control focused on the overall functioning of the hospital, not the specific surgery, and called the media report inaccurate. The hospital director also said the senator’s version lacks factual support. The matter has been referred to the Bydgoszcz District Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal investigation.
