Polish household finances: spending priorities and tax risks

Recent data and financial observations highlight significant trends and risks regarding household management in Poland. A study by BIG InfoMonitor reveals a paradox in family spending: while rising living costs and household expenses are primary drivers of domestic financial disputes for 31% of Poles, spending on children remains a low-conflict priority. Despite high expenditures on education and extracurricular activities, many parents struggle to save for their children's long-term future.

Simultaneously, taxpayers face increased scrutiny from the tax authorities regarding electronic transfers. While transfers within the 'zero tax group'—including spouses, children, and siblings—can be exempt from tax, strict administrative requirements must be met. Specifically, recipients must file form SD-Z2 within six months of receiving funds to maintain tax-exempt status. Failure to meet these bureaucratic deadlines or using incorrect transaction descriptions can result in the loss of exemptions and significant tax liabilities.
