Polish households adopt simple tricks to banish odors from vacuums and drains

A popular home‑care tip in Poland recommends placing two to three dry bay (laurel) leaves inside the vacuum‑cleaner bag. The heat generated during operation releases natural essential oils, giving the device a fresh, herbal scent and deterring small insects such as moths and dust mites.

Another common household issue is a foul smell coming from kitchen, bathroom or laundry drains. The most frequent cause is a dried‑out trap that no longer holds water, allowing sewer gases to rise. Accumulated food residues, grease, hair or soap scum can also decompose and produce odor. Simple remedies include flushing the drain with hot water, using a suitable pipe‑cleaning agent, and refilling the trap by running water for several seconds. Persistent odors, slow drainage or bubbling may require a plumber to inspect ventilation or blockages.
