Polish financial sector deploys AI and new safeguards to curb fraud

Artificial intelligence is being integrated across Poland's financial services. Machine‑learning models for credit scoring cut assessment errors by 20‑35% versus traditional methods. Around three‑quarters of large Polish organisations now run AI or advanced‑analytics projects, yet two‑thirds of those initiatives remain in proof‑of‑concept stages and only 43% deliver their expected benefits.

VeloBank launched an AI‑powered virtual assistant, Vela, that instantly calls customers to verify suspicious transactions, handling hundreds of calls in seconds. The banking sector is also bolstering fraud prevention: insurers reported over 40,000 insurance‑fraud cases in 2025—a 24% rise—with total fraudulent claims exceeding 798 million zł. Using data analytics and telematics, insurers blocked 66% of these claims, averting payouts of about 450 million zł.

In parallel, the BLIK payment system will, from 1 September, automatically reject online payments directed to websites listed in the Ministry of Finance’s register of illegal gambling services, a measure approved by the National Bank of Poland to curb the grey‑market of internet gambling.
