PiS nominates Marcin Ociepa as vice‑speaker amid loyalty‑oath split
Law and Justice (PiS) demanded that all members submit a loyalty declaration by a Thursday midnight deadline. About 37 deputies, three MEPs and one senator refused, risking expulsion. Party leader Jarosław Kaczyński issued an ultimatum that any member belonging to political associations such as Mateusz Morawiecki’s Rozwój Plus must quit the association or leave the party. The pressure led to resignations from Rozwój Plus – Wiesław Krajewski and Grzegorz Lorek left the group and re‑joined PiS after signing the oath. PiS then withdrew its earlier support for Elżbieta Witek and, on the announcement of club chief Mariusz Błaszczak, nominated former defence minister Marcin Ociepa as its candidate for the vacant vice‑speaker seat in the Sejm. The nomination will be presented to Sejm speaker Włodzimierz Czarzasty in early September. Meanwhile, former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki warned that, if expelled, he will create a new parliamentary club tentatively called “Rozwój Plus”.
