Polish libraries honor Librarian Day with awards and community celebrations

Beata Szymańska, director of the Municipal Public Library in Świecie, was among twelve regional library leaders honored with a Marshal’s award for outstanding promotion of reading. She highlighted the library’s move to a new building on Sienkiewicza Street in 2015 and its role as a cultural hub hosting picnics, exhibitions, concerts and workshops beyond traditional book lending.

On 14 May 2026, the Trzcinica Municipal Library commemorated Librarian Day with a ceremony attended by local officials, library staff and representatives of the community. Director and staff received bouquets and gratitude for their long‑term dedication to promoting literacy and cultural life. The event is part of Poland’s annual Librarian Day and Library Week, celebrated nationwide from 8–15 May and established by the Polish Librarians’ Association in 1985.
