Polish livestock industry faces data gaps and rising food waste

Dr. Mariusz Soszka of Ewrol warned that many Polish pig farms lose money because they do not analyse feed ingredients or collect basic feeding data. He explained that relying on standard tables instead of actual laboratory results leads to inaccurate feed formulas, higher costs and poorer production results. Proper monitoring of feed composition, mixing, particle size and the feed‑conversion ratio is essential for profitability.

A separate report highlighted that roughly 40% of global food is wasted, with dairy products accounting for a large share of household waste. The study identified short shelf‑life, consumer confusion over “use‑by” versus “best‑before” dates and breaks in the cold‑chain as key drivers of loss. Reducing these losses requires better education, improved logistics and more accurate labeling.
