Polish local governments warn of crisis in county hospitals
Local government officials in Poland are raising alarms regarding the deteriorating financial state of county hospitals. During the Podkarpackie Voivodeship County Convention in Ropczyce, representatives discussed rising operational costs, insufficient funding for health services, and difficulties in settling excess medical procedures.
The crisis is leading to the potential reduction of medical services. In Ropczyce, authorities have announced the planned closure of the elective surgery department as well as the anesthesiology, intensive care, and pain management department.
Officials emphasize that the scale of these financial challenges exceeds the capabilities of many local governments. They are calling for urgent systemic changes and state support to prevent further service limitations, which could force patients to seek medical care in distant facilities.
