Polish man arrested for assault on Azerbaijani taxi driver in Warsaw

A 36‑year‑old Polish resident of Warsaw was detained after allegedly beating an Azerbaijani taxi driver near the Gdańsk Station on Friday. According to police, the suspect kicked the vehicle, shouted racist slurs and used a telescopic baton taken from his car’s trunk to strike the driver. A female passenger filmed the incident and called emergency services; the driver was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The man turned himself in on Sunday accompanied by a lawyer and is now facing charges of causing medium bodily injury and ethnic insult, punishable by up to five years in prison. The case is being investigated by the Warsaw Żoliborz District Prosecutor's Office, with police continuing to gather evidence.

Police statements identified the suspect as “a 36‑year‑old citizen of Poland, resident of Warsaw.” The victim, a legal resident of Poland, said he had never experienced such aggression before.
