Polish Man with Fabry Disease Stuck at 12‑Year‑Old Size

Tomasz Nadolski, a 33‑year‑old man from Oleśnica, Poland, stopped growing at age 12 after developing Fabry disease, a rare hereditary genetic disorder that affects roughly one in 40,000 men. The condition caused severe abdominal, hand and foot pain, vomiting, fever, tremors, tachycardia and an inability to gain weight.

From age seven, doctors repeatedly dismissed his symptoms as imagined or psychological, leading to a decade of misdiagnosis, bullying at school (nicknamed “Skeletor”) and worsening health. A genetic test finally confirmed Fabry disease when he was 16, but the damage was already irreversible. He never entered puberty and remains physically the size of a pre‑teen, enduring chronic pain and limited activity.

The case highlights the challenges of diagnosing rare diseases and the social impact of prolonged medical uncertainty.
