Polish maritime ports see record container throughput growth

Polish maritime ports in Gdańsk and Gdynia are experiencing significant growth in cargo handling. According to GUS data, container throughput in Polish ports increased by over 15 percent during the first seven months of the year.

In the first half of 2026, Port Gdańsk handled 41.7 million tons of cargo, a 9 percent increase compared to the previous year. Breakbulk cargo rose by 17 percent to 15.2 million tons, while Baltic Hub handled nearly 1.6 million TEUs, up 23 percent year-on-year. Port Gdynia saw a 3.5 percent increase in total throughput, exceeding 13.5 million tons, driven largely by grains, animal feed, liquid fuels, and the ro-ro segment.

This expansion is strengthening the Pomerania region's role as a logistics hub for Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. In response to rising demand for warehouse space and contract logistics, DACHSER is preparing to move its Gdańsk branch to a larger facility.
