Polish mechanic builds custom tractor using mixed vehicle parts
Mateusz Bikowski, a mechanic from the Kielce region, has constructed a functional custom tractor, referred to as the SAM project. The machine is built using a combination of components from various vehicles to ensure reliability and simplicity.
The tractor features a hood and front axle from an Ursus C-330, while the powertrain includes a 1.9 liter Volkswagen Golf diesel engine. To handle heavy loads such as a two-furrow plow, Bikowski opted for a rear axle from a Star truck rather than a Żuk axle, which he deemed too weak for field work.
While the project was initially intended for snow removal and small-scale vegetable farming, Bikowski has also listed a similar DIY tractor project for sale for 7,300 PLN. That specific version utilizes a VW diesel engine and a Żuk gearbox and axle, though it remains unfinished, requiring further work on the brakes, hydraulics, and front loader.
