Polish Medieval Archaeology Summer School Starts in Budzistowo

The Center for Medieval Studies at the Catholic University of Lublin, together with the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, is organizing a two‑week Summer School of Medieval Archaeology in Budzistowo near Kołobrzeg. The programme runs from 1 to 15 September 2026 and is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as doctoral candidates, who are interested in hands‑on archaeological practice. Participants will take part in field excavations at the early‑medieval settlement of Budzistowo, receive lectures on archaeological methods, and work alongside experts in the discipline. The school is offered free of charge, with organizers covering accommodation in double rooms and partial catering.

The event aims to introduce non‑specialist students to the techniques and scientific potential of medieval archaeology, emphasizing the historical significance of the site, which served as an early Piast stronghold on the Baltic coast between the 9th and 13th centuries.
