Polish Memorial Wrestling Tournaments Highlight Regional Youth Talent
On 30 May, two memorial wrestling tournaments took place in western Poland, each honoring a local figure. In Kowalów, the Memoriał Ewy Czajkowskiej brought together teams from Słubice, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Świebodzin, Zielona Góra, Lubrza and Kowalów. Competitions were held for age groups VI‑V and IV‑younger. SP nr 7 Świebodzin won the older‑age classification, while UKS Miś Gorzów topped the younger category. Individual awards highlighted Małgorzata Zagajewska, Julia Czerwińska and Zuzanna Łęcka among others.
In Racibórz, the Memoriał Grzegorza Pieronkiewicza attracted 211 wrestlers from 20 clubs in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. MKZ UNIA Racibórz entered the largest squad (44 athletes) and secured the team title with 178 points. Individual victories included Sebastian Koch (48 kg), Franciszek Ostrowski (52 kg), Bartosz Lewandowski (57 kg) and several junior winners. The event commemorated former wrestler and local leader Grzegorz Pieronkiewicz while providing a platform for young athletes across the region.
