Polish military logistics undergo transformation amid regional conflict
The Polish Armed Forces' Support Inspectorate (IWsp SZ) is undergoing a significant transformation driven by the war in Ukraine and the rapid expansion of the Polish military. Established nearly 20 years ago to align with NATO standards, the Inspectorate was designed to relieve operational commanders of financial and economic burdens, allowing them to focus on training and combat readiness.
Major General Dariusz Mendrala, head of the Inspectorate, notes that the organization is operating at unprecedented levels. The logistics system is currently managing the daily needs of a growing domestic army while simultaneously facilitating international support. Notably, approximately 95 percent of Western aid destined for Ukraine passes through the logistics hub in Rzeszów-Jasionka.
The scale of operations has shifted significantly; General Mendrala highlighted that the ratio of support personnel to supported personnel has increased from 1:8 two decades ago to 1:31 today, reflecting a need for greater efficiency and dynamic adaptation to modern battlefield realities.
