Polish Minister of Education Faces 200,000-Petition Pushback Over Sexual Education
Representatives of the Ordo Iuris foundation and the Centre of Life and Family handed over more than 200,000 signatures to the Ministry of Education and the Prime Minister’s Office on the day the school year ended. The signatures were gathered for four petitions that demand the retention of the "family upbringing" subject, reject compulsory health education that includes permissive sex education, protect the presence of religion lessons in schools, and call for the resignation of Education Minister Barbara Nowacka.
The petitioners argue that the changes introduced by the ministry undermine parents' constitutional right to raise their children according to their own convictions and constitute an ideological takeover of Polish schools. They cite the recent expansion of "health education" to a mandatory subject and recent curriculum revisions as reasons for their protest.
