Polish ministers clash over healthcare reform timeline
A political dispute has emerged within the Polish government following criticism by Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Katarzyna Pełczyńska-Nałęcz regarding proposed healthcare reforms. Pełczyńska-Nałęcz criticized Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda’s plan to implement legislation regulating doctors' working hours and pay rates after a 12-month period, labeling the delay a “festival of niedasizm” (an inability to get things done).
Education Minister Barbara Nowacka responded sharply to the comments, accusing Pełczyńska-Nałęcz of constant criticism of other departments rather than focusing on her own ministry. Nowacka suggested that such behavior feels like “digging holes” under colleagues to gain political visibility. While acknowledging that medical wage regulations are necessary, Nowacka emphasized the need for a calm implementation to ensure patient safety is not compromised by sudden changes.
