Ministry of Agriculture fashion show sparks political controversy

A fashion show held by the design duo Paprocki&Brzozowski at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Warsaw has sparked significant political controversy. Critics and opposition politicians have questioned the appropriateness of hosting a commercial, closed-door event in a state administrative building, raising concerns regarding security and the perceived disconnect between the ministry and the struggling agricultural sector.

The Ministry responded with a statement clarifying that it did not organize or finance the event. Instead, the space was rented on a commercial basis, with proceeds directed to the State Treasury. The ministry noted that the rental agreement included a requirement for the tenant to fund a special zone promoting Polish food products, such as honey, cheese, and apples, at no additional cost to taxpayers.

While the ministry maintains that such commercial use of public spaces is a standard practice used by other institutions, critics have labeled the event a “total embarrassment,” arguing that the focus should remain on the economic challenges facing Polish farmers rather than high-fashion displays.
