Polish Ministry of Labour uses memes to promote labor reforms

The Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy has clarified that a series of unusual posts on its official X (formerly Twitter) account were part of a deliberate marketing campaign titled ‘Panie Areczku 2’. The posts, which used phrases such as ‘Hello! Mr. Areczek, please do not sleep!’ and ‘Hello! Mr. Areczek, are you here yet?’, initially caused confusion among internet users, leading to speculation about account hacking or staff misconduct.

The ministry explained that the campaign utilizes popular internet memes to promote recent reforms to the National Labour Inspectorate (PIP), which went into effect on July 8. By subverting the traditional ‘Panie Areczek’ meme, the ministry aims to reach Polish workers and inform them about the ‘new order in the labour market.’

The reform grants inspectors new tools to combat improper employment practices, specifically allowing them to issue decisions to replace certain civil law contracts and B2B arrangements with standard employment contracts. The ministry intends to continue using this lighthearted, meme-based communication style to share information regarding labour rights and market changes.
