Poland's NFZ expands free cancer screening services

The National Health Fund (NFZ) is promoting free cancer‑screening programmes across Poland. A mobile mammography unit, the "Mammobus", will visit Jednorożec on 11 August, offering free mammograms to women aged 45‑74 who have not been screened in the past 24 months; no referral is required, but prior registration by phone is needed. The same unit is also scheduled to travel through Tarnów County, extending access for local residents.

From 1 August 2026 the NFZ will fund a free high‑risk HPV (HPV HR) test for women aged 25‑64 nationwide, replacing the traditional cytology‑based cervical‑cancer screening. The test can be taken without a doctor’s referral at participating gynaecology clinics, and the programme covers the full cost, which would otherwise be €190‑250.

In Gniezno, the Szpital Pomnik Chrztu Polski has expanded its oncology outpatient clinic, adding specialist surgeons from the University of Medical Sciences in Poznań. The clinic now provides breast‑cancer diagnostics, including core‑needle biopsies, without requiring a referral, improving local access to specialist care.
