Polish MPs face investigation over Academy of Justice protests
Polish authorities have received notifications regarding potential criminal activity involving Law and Justice (PiS) MPs during protests at the Academy of Justice. The disputes follow the Ministry of Justice's decision to remove the academy's rector-commander, Michał Sopiński, replacing him with Sławomir Cudak.
Dariusz Matecki is facing a report for potential trespassing after he climbed the academy's fence on Monday to protest the leadership change. Acting rector Sławomir Cudak filed the notification, and the matter has been referred to the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw.
Additionally, Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński has requested a prosecution investigation into the conduct of Antoni Macierewicz. During the demonstrations, Macierewicz reportedly confronted police officers, telling one, “Officer, please stop committing a crime... you have no right to stop me,” and physically touching another officer's uniform to read a concealed name tag. The head of the Police Trade Union, Rafał Jankowski, has called for consequences, stating that boundaries were clearly crossed.
