Polish municipalities address climate change and drought risks

Local authorities in Poland are implementing measures to combat the effects of climate change and increasing drought conditions.

In Świnoujście, the city has launched public consultations for its Municipal Adaptation Plan to climate change. The plan aims to prepare the city for challenges such as heatwaves, intense precipitation, and periodic water shortages. Funded by the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, and Environment 2021–2027 program, the initiative allows residents to submit proposals and feedback until November 12, 2026.

In Spytkowice, local council members are discussing strategies to mitigate deepening drought. Municipal officials have indicated plans to develop water storage capabilities, including the construction of a second reservoir and the modernization of water pipelines. Proposals have also been made to establish a permanent water intake point where residents could individually collect water under monitored conditions to ensure usage is properly recorded and balanced.
