Polish municipalities face significant budget deficits and debt challenges
Local governments in Poland are navigating substantial financial pressures. In Lwówek Śląski, Mayor Dawid Kobiałka has announced a tender for a long-term loan of approximately 17.9 million PLN. The funds are intended to finance the planned budget deficit and repay existing obligations, including previous loans and debts. The repayment schedule is set to run until September 2035, with estimated interest costs exceeding 4.4 million PLN.
In Kraków, preliminary analyses indicate a budget shortfall of approximately 390 million PLN. This deficit impacts key sectors including education, which requires between 220 million and 270 million PLN for teacher salaries and administrative costs, as well as transport and public communication, which faces an 80 million PLN gap. Mayor Łukasz Gibała has ordered a detailed budget analysis to find ways to cover these shortages without resorting to new loans, credits, or bonds.
