Poland's police and environmental agencies seize drugs and assess hazardous waste sites
Polish police seized significant drug quantities in two operations. In Elbląg, officers found a locked bag containing 163 g of amphetamine, leading to the arrest of a 24‑year‑old who faces up to ten years in prison. In Małopolska, a 37‑year‑old was detained after parcel‑locker deliveries revealed nearly 11 kg of narcotics, including marijuana, MDMA, cocaine and amphetamine, together with equipment for packaging.
Authorities also issued public safety alerts and made arrests. Zawiercie police warned residents about ticket‑sale scams after a 21‑year‑old lost 450 zł. In Żywiec, citizens detained a robbery suspect on Świętokrzyska Street. In Mrągowo, a man who stole scratch‑cards worth about 300 zł was identified, fined and sentenced to 182 days in prison.
Environmental agencies conducted large‑scale inspections. Inspectors examined the Rogowc hazardous‑waste depot, one of Europe’s biggest, containing over 50,000 t of dangerous substances. In Wołomin, thousands of corroded barrels of toxic chemicals prompted the voivodeship to request 20 million zł from the state budget for remediation. Lubaczów municipality launched a fully funded program to remove asbestos from private properties. The KZGRL region reported a 24 % increase in bulky‑waste collections, and Radziłów scheduled a multi‑day collection of bulky items and e‑waste.
