Polish municipalities test smart waste bins to improve segregation
Polish municipalities are testing smart waste bins to improve waste segregation and management. In Bielsko-Biała, a pilot program has been proposed that would utilize electronic user identification systems, such as mobile apps or cards, to monitor bin usage and fill levels. These sensors could allow authorities to optimize collection schedules and potentially analyze the structure and quantity of waste to ensure proper segregation.
Similar technology is already being implemented in Świętochłowice, where a pilot project costing over 2.1 million PLN has introduced smart containers. In that program, residents use specific barcodes to access bins, helping to track waste disposal patterns.
