Polish National Parks implement new infrastructure and accessibility projects
Karkonoski National Park, in partnership with UNEP/GRID-Warszawa and Grupa Żabka, has completed renovations on over 4.5 km of hiking trails. The project, part of the Re:Generacja program, includes new boardwalks, paving, and drainage systems designed to protect sensitive peatlands and wetlands from erosion and tourist pressure. The initiative also provides 27 educational signs and 6,000 free maps to promote responsible hiking.
Separately, Kampinos National Park has opened a 3.5 km educational trail at Polana Jakubów in Izabelin. This path is specifically designed to be accessible for people with disabilities, including wheelchair users and the visually impaired. The trail features sensory paths, Braille descriptions, and QR codes for audio descriptions. The project was made possible through private funding to ensure nature accessibility remains a right rather than a privilege.
