Polish Navy preps frigate ORP Wicher and upgrades rescue ships
The Maritime Search and Rescue Service signed a contract with Stocznia Remontowa Nauta S.A. in Gdynia to perform a class renovation of two SAR‑3000 rescue vessels, m/s Orkan and m/s Pasat. The work, valued at 5.4 million PLN, is scheduled for 100 days and was awarded after a tender that also considered two other shipyards.
Separately, the Polish Navy is preparing the launch of the first frigate of the 106 “Miecznik” program, ORP Wicher. The ship, built at PGZ Stoczni Wojennej in Gdynia, will be floated in the Bay of Gdańsk on 12 August 2026 after final fitting in a purpose‑built hall. The frigate is slated for delivery in 2029 and will be equipped with a combat management system and missile armament.
