Polish oat‑fed goose eyes EU protected status as strawberry exports hit record

Poland’s oat‑fed goose (Polska gęś owsiana) is in the final stage of receiving a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) from the European Commission. The designation would allow producers to label the product with the EU’s “Protected Geographical Indication” mark and could double current revenues, according to the EU agriculture commissioner and industry leaders.

Poland also remains the second‑largest strawberry producer in the European Union, accounting for about 13 % of EU output and ranking tenth worldwide. The 2025 harvest reached 151 000 t, with exports of 74 000 t—mostly frozen strawberries—generating €166 million, a 14 % year‑on‑year increase. The main EU markets are Germany, France and the Netherlands, while Belarus is the largest non‑EU buyer of fresh fruit.

Both developments underline the growing competitiveness of Polish agricultural products in European and global markets.
