Polish officials highlight escalating costs in waste management and healthcare

Local authorities in Poland are subsidising the waste‑management system by about 1.5 billion zł, because municipal councils reject rate proposals that reflect actual operating costs. Experts say rising fuel prices, higher wages and stricter legal requirements are driving up expenses, and the subsidies are viewed as a populist response to the rejected fees.

Former MP and former NFZ chief Andrzej Sośnierz criticised the chaotic pricing of medical procedures, proposing a limit of 240 zł per hour for doctors. He argued that the current system allows excessive charges and called for competition among insurers and providers, the abolition of the National Health Fund, and deregulation of service prices.
