Polish Ombudsman Marcin Wiącek’s Tenure Reviewed at University of Warsaw Seminar
On 29 July 2026, the Golden Hall of the Kazimierz Palace at the University of Warsaw hosted a seminar marking the end of Marcin Wiącek’s term as Poland’s Ombudsman for Citizen Rights. The event, organized with the support of the XBW Ignacy Krasicki Foundation and the European Security Institute, featured the presentation of Wiącek’s book *In Defense of Dignity and Human Rights*, which reviews his tenure and outlines key challenges in protecting civil liberties.
The audience included academics, legal practitioners, representatives from the judiciary, executive, legislature and alumni of the university’s Law Faculty. The university rector, Professor Alojzy Nowak, delivered a congratulatory letter on behalf of the academic community. A discussion led by legal journalist Tomasz Pietryga followed, allowing participants to pose questions about the book and Wiącek’s experience as Ombudsman. Attendees received signed copies of the publication.
