Polish opposition criticizes energy support legislation
Krzysztof Bosak, Deputy Marshal of the Sejm and co-leader of the Confederation party, has criticized a newly passed Polish law designed to support energy-intensive industries facing high electricity costs. The legislation implements a European Union support mechanism, but Bosak argues it is being executed poorly.
Bosak noted that the law includes a CIT tax increase for major fuel and energy companies, which is expected to generate 7.2 billion PLN. While approximately 4.8 billion PLN is earmarked for industrial support, Bosak claims the remaining funds will serve to plug budget deficits rather than lowering energy costs. He warned that the tax increases will likely be passed on to consumers and criticized the mechanism for creating limited support that may not guarantee equal treatment for all eligible businesses.
The bill has moved to the Senate following opposition attempts to introduce amendments.
