Polish Parishes Promote Porcjunkuli Indulgence in Early August

The Catholic tradition of the Porcjunkuli indulgence, originally confirmed by Pope Benedict XV in 1921, allows faithful who visit designated parish churches to receive a plenary indulgence under ordinary conditions. Pope Paul VI later defined two specific days each year when the indulgence can be granted.

In the Diocese of Gliwice, the bishop has authorized the indulgence to be obtained either on 2 August, on the Sunday preceding 26 July, or on 9 August, but only on one of those dates. The parish of Our Lady of Help in Gliwice‑Sośnica publicized these options and outlined the required conditions: sacrament of confession, Holy Communion, visitation of the parish church, and specific prayers.

The parish of St Mary of Częstochowa in Mętków similarly announced that the Porcjunkuli indulgence will be available from noon on 1 August (Saturday) until midnight on 2 August (Sunday). The announcement links the indulgence to St Francis of Assisi and stresses the same doctrinal prerequisites for receiving the plenary indulgence.
