Polish Parliament Rejects 2403 zł Basic Income Proposal

The Sejm’s Committee on Petitions dismissed a petition to introduce an unconditional basic income of 2,403 zł per month for every person aged three years and older – half of the current minimum wage. The committee’s decision means the proposal will not become law and existing welfare programmes such as the 800 plus family benefit, the thirteenth and fourteenth pension supplements, and means‑tested social assistance remain unchanged.

The Ministry of Finance warned that even a lower‑priced version of the scheme (1,300 zł per person) would cost about 40 billion zł a month – roughly 12 % of projected 2025 GDP – and that financing a 2,403 zł payout would be even more untenable. The ministry has stated it is not preparing legislation for a basic income and has no plans to implement such a program.
