Polish pension funds reach record 363.7 billion PLN in assets

Polish Open Pension Funds (OFE) reached record net assets of 363.7 billion PLN in August 2026, following an average monthly return of 2.8%. Since the beginning of the year, the average OFE return has reached 27%. Nationale-Nederlanden OFE remains the largest fund with assets exceeding 100 billion PLN, while Allianz Polska OFE holds approximately 90.5 billion PLN.

In the broader investment market, August saw significant performance variations. Precious metals funds were the top performers, with strategies focused on gold and silver stocks gaining an average of 29.9%. This was driven by a 9.1% increase in gold prices and a 15.9% rise in silver prices. Conversely, funds investing in long-term Polish treasury bonds were among the few to see negative returns.

The Warsaw Stock Exchange continued its strong trend, with the WIG20 and WIG indices hitting historical highs. On Wall Street, the S&P 500 reached a new record in mid-August, fueled by AI-related technology stocks, though volatility increased later in the month due to hawkish comments from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh regarding inflation and interest rates.
