ZUS and KRUS announce 2026 pension and benefit updates
The Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) and the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS) have announced several updates regarding social benefits and pension regulations for 2026.
In September 2026, ZUS and KRUS will begin distributing the '14th pension.' The maximum amount is 1,978.49 PLN gross, payable in full to those whose monthly pension does not exceed 2,900 PLN gross. For higher pensions, a 'złotówka za złotówka' mechanism will reduce the benefit, with no payment made if the calculated amount falls below 50 PLN. Payments are automatic and do not require applications.
Additionally, ZUS is adjusting income limits for retirees who continue to work. Effective September 1, 2026, the first threshold is 6,463.20 PLN gross (70% of the average wage), above which benefits may be reduced. The second threshold is 12,003.10 PLN gross (130% of the average wage), exceeding which may result in the suspension of benefits.
Other updates include the 'Dobry Start' program, where parents must submit applications by the end of August to ensure 300 PLN school supplies benefits are received by late September. Furthermore, funeral grants are set to increase to 7,000 PLN starting January 2026, provided applications are filed within 12 months of the event.
