Polish pilgrim coach struck by truck in Hungary
A Polish pilgrim coach carrying 53 passengers was involved in a collision on highway 86 near Zalalövő, Hungary, during the early hours of September 5, 2026. The incident began when the driver struck a sheep on the road and pulled over to the shoulder with hazard lights activated.
Shortly after the vehicle stopped, a Hungarian truck struck the stationary coach from behind. Eight people, including the truck driver, sustained light injuries. Local authorities in Zalalövő provided assistance, including temporary shelter in a local school gymnasium for the uninjured passengers.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that all pilgrims have since been provided with a replacement bus and have resumed their journey back to Poland. Hungarian services are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
