Polish pilgrimage bus crash in Hungary kills 12
A Polish pilgrimage bus crashed on the M3 motorway near Mezőkeresztes, Hungary, resulting in 12 deaths and 47 injuries. The vehicle, carrying 59 passengers returning from Bosnia and Herzegovina, veered off the road and overturned into a roadside ditch around 1 a.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Hungarian police have detained the driver. Among the casualties, 10 people are reported to be in serious condition, while 40 others sustained minor injuries.
Emergency responders utilized heavy machinery, including cranes and winches, to lift the 24-ton vehicle and rescue passengers trapped underneath. The Polish Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, has ordered immediate and intensified inspections of transport companies following the tragedy. The Polish Embassy in Budapest has established a helpline for the families of the victims.
