Polish players face early exits in Wimbledon qualifying and Eastbourne events
Polish doubles team Katarzyna Piter and Maria Kozyreva were eliminated in the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Eastbourne, losing to the Dutch‑British pair Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden 3‑6, 6‑4, 10‑4.
In the Wimbledon qualifying draw, Poland's Linda Klimovicova fell to New Zealand's Lulu Sun 7‑6(3), 7‑5, while fellow qualifier Katarzyna Kawa was seeded 14 and set to meet Susan Bandecchi in the first round. Both players joined a Polish contingent that includes Iga Świątek, Magda Linette, Magdalena Fręch, Kamil Majchrzaki, Hubert Hurkacz and wildcard Maja Chwalińska.
Czech star Barbora Krejčiková, who had reached the semifinals of a recent WTA 250 event, withdrew from the Libema Open final due to illness and later entered the Eastbourne tournament as the fourth seed, where she was defeated by Australian Kimberly Birrell 6‑3, 7‑6(6). These results highlight the mixed fortunes of Polish tennis players as they prepare for the upcoming Wimbledon championships.
