Polish PM Donald Tusk backs Ukraine and urges calm ahead of Gdansk reconstruction conference

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reaffirmed full support for Ukraine, saying Poland will continue to aid Kyiv without hesitation. He made the remarks at a meeting of European leaders in Berlin ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara. Tusk emphasized the need to keep European and trans‑Atlantic unity as the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Ukraine opens in Gdańsk, Poland. The summit will focus on rebuilding war‑damaged infrastructure, with Tusk mentioning the possibility of signing up to 200 contracts worth billions of euros.

Zelenskyy cancelled his personal attendance at the Gdańsk event after a dispute with Polish President Karol Nawrocki over a Ukrainian unit being named after the World‑War‑II UPA militia. He will be represented by Prime Minister Ilya Sviridenko. Tusk said the absence could reduce heated emotions and allow the conference to be more concrete, while warning that Polish‑Ukrainian tensions risk benefiting Russia. He called for reconciliation based on truth and urged both peoples to demonstrate civilized coexistence.
