Polish police alert public to remote‑desktop and police‑impersonation scams

Two men in Grajewo, a 66‑year‑old and a 79‑year‑old, fell victim to remote‑desktop investment scams. After clicking online ads promising quick profits, they installed software that let fraudsters monitor their computers. The older victim lost 30,000 zł, while the younger transferred a total of 40,800 zł.

Separately, authorities have noted a surge of phishing e‑mails in which the senders pretend to be police officers or Europol agents, threatening immediate legal action over alleged crimes such as child‑sexual‑content offenses. The messages aim to extract personal data or money. Police advise not to reply, not to open attachments, and to verify any contact through official channels.
