Polish Police Arrest Suspect in Killing of Russian Satirist Robert Kuzovkov

On 15 June 2026 Russian artist and political cartoonist Robert Kuzovkov, known by the pseudonym Semyon Skrepetsky, was shot dead in broad daylight near his home in Biała Podlaska, eastern Poland. He was 44 and had gained notoriety for caricatures of President Vladimir Putin, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and other Russian officials.

Polish authorities arrested a 36‑year‑old man carrying a Georgian passport in a hostel near Warsaw. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said the suspect has links to organized crime and is being investigated for possible ties to foreign intelligence services. Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the murder as having “the hallmarks of a political assassination” and warned that, if commissioned by Russia, it would amount to state‑sponsored terrorism.

Police initially detained two Belarusian citizens near the Belarusian consulate but later released them for lack of evidence. The investigation continues to determine whether the killing was ordered by Russian services or a hired assassin. Kuzovkov had previously refused protective measures offered by Polish authorities despite repeated death threats linked to his satirical work.

The case adds to a series of attacks on Russian dissidents abroad since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, highlighting escalating security concerns for exiled opponents in NATO countries.
