Ukrainian national arrested in Warsaw for suspected Romanian sabotage

Polish authorities have arrested a 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen, Artem S., in Warsaw on suspicion of participating in the preparation of sabotage acts in Romania. The arrest was made by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBŚP) following a European Arrest Warrant issued by Romanian judicial authorities.

The suspect is allegedly linked to a fire that occurred on September 14, 2026, at an industrial park in Brașov, near the CARFIL weapons manufacturing facility. Romanian intelligence services (SRI) and prosecutors claim the incident was part of a sabotage network coordinated from Russia. Artem S. is suspected of identifying targets for arson and securing financing for the operation.

Two Belarusian citizens, who were reportedly arrested in Germany, are also implicated in the network. While the Ukrainian suspect has been placed in preventive detention for seven days by a Warsaw court, he has refused extradition to Romania. A Polish judge will decide on the extradition procedure.
