Polish police dismantle fake mObywatel app operation

The Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) has dismantled an operation involving a fraudulent application designed to mimic the official Polish mObywatel app. The software allowed users to generate virtual identity documents containing false data.

Authorities conducted 27 searches and detained 21 individuals, including 13 minors. Investigations revealed that the minors were involved in purchasing the program, advertising it online, administering the website, and distributing the script to acquaintances. Police seized over 30 electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, along with transaction histories and correspondence.

Adult suspects face charges including participation in an organized criminal group, the unlawful production and distribution of computer programs, and material document forgery. Three adults have been placed in temporary arrest, while two others are under police supervision. Documentation regarding the minors has been forwarded to family courts.
