Polish police investigation examines fatal shooting of officer Natan Sieroń

An investigation is underway following the death of 29-year-old police officer Natan Sieroń, who was fatally shot during an operation in Kraśnik Górny near Bolesławiec on September 24, 2026. The incident began after a suspect, identified as Mariusz G., was linked to the theft of a large decorative palm from a construction store.

Reports suggest potential procedural errors during the police action. While authorities reportedly knew the suspect might be armed, counter-terrorism units were not deployed. Additional concerns have been raised regarding the perimeter security, the lack of medical backup, and a reported error in identifying the correct building address. The suspect was apprehended following the shooting, which left Sieroń with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.

Sieroń had been with the police force for two years and had served in the criminal department for one month prior to the incident.
