Poland implements new road safety laws and enforcement measures

Poland is implementing significant changes to road safety laws and enforcement. New regulations effective in 2026 aim to penalize dangerous behaviors such as illegal racing, drifting, and reckless driving. Additionally, municipal guards are receiving expanded powers to issue fines for violations at railway crossings, with penalties reaching up to 3,000 PLN.

To promote safety, the ROADPOL Safety Days initiative is launching a week-long coordinated enforcement campaign across Europe, including Poland. Police will conduct intensive checks on driver sobriety, vehicle technical condition, and pedestrian safety, particularly focusing on vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists.

Simultaneously, various local authorities are conducting 'Safe Way to School' campaigns to educate children on road rules and the importance of visibility through reflectors. Meanwhile, infrastructure and local traffic management issues continue to be addressed, such as planned bridge repairs in Elbląg and debates over roundabout modernization in Żywiec.
