Two Fatal Accidents in Polish Tatras Claim Lives of Tourist and Climber

On Saturday, 1 August, two separate fatal incidents occurred in the Polish Tatra mountains. A tourist fell from a trail in the Granaty area near the Skrajna Sieczkowa Pass, descending toward Dolina Buczynowa. Rescue teams, including a TOPR helicopter, reached the site but could not revive him; his body was air‑lifted to Zakopane. In a second incident, a climber died while attempting to ascend the wall of Mięguszowiecki Peak near Morskie Oko. The partner of the climber reported the accident and the victim’s body was also transported by helicopter to Zakopane. TOPR noted the high volume of tourists, hot weather and the risk of dehydration, urging hikers to check forecasts, plan routes carefully and carry sufficient water as conditions can change rapidly and storms are expected.

The accidents have prompted renewed safety warnings from mountain rescue services.
