Polish police refute claim suspect’s wife was key witness in 13‑year‑old Iza Strzałkowska murder

Police in Gdańsk arrested 37‑year‑old Michał S. in Gdyni on 21 July 2026, charging him with the murder and rape of 13‑year‑old Izabela (Iza) Strzałkowska, a crime that occurred on 23 August 2011. A court placed him in temporary detention for three months.

After the arrest, internet users circulated a theory that the suspect’s current wife was the 22‑year‑old student who had provided a key witness statement years earlier. The Gdańsk Police Archive (Archiwum X) publicly denied the claim, stating the wife and the former student are different individuals and the theory is false. Deputy Chief Anna Banaszewska emphasized that the speculation is erroneous and urged the public not to pursue the rumor.
